On the radio yesterday they were saying it looks as if it is going to be a mast year. This is when trees and bushes produce bumper crops.
The rowan trees are festooned with berries.
When we lived just a few miles further south there were no rowans. Here there are dozens in the hedgerows, banks and quarries.
Oddly our oak trees don’t appear to be taking part in the mast. As far as I can see they have very few acorns on them
Two years ago the oak tree behind the house produced hundreds and hundreds of acorns. It towers above the corrugated carport roof and for weeks all we heard was the rattle of them landing on the roof.
SmallDog made himself ill by picking them up and chewing them.
This year it stands silent and acornless.
